To what company would you write a letter of complaint?
$5 Meal Deal
Three men crammed into a sedan. Hot and hungry made for a dreadful combination. With one adult male and my cousin, who spread his legs, I sat there uncomfortably. Hugging the door and having little to no space left to maneuver. This went on for the better part of an hour and a half. The idea to stop to get some food was thrown up. My cousin and I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to escape the suffocating box on wheels. A breath of fresh air was the best thing I had felt in a long time. As we stepped out of the car, there it was on the wall, our lord and savior, the $5 Meal Deal. Small bag of the most delectable fries, five chicken nuggets, a drink, and a choice of a McDouble or McChicken. Affordable, and one hundred percent worth every single dollar. Like a candy to a baby, we were enamoured by the sight, drawn by the beauty of it all. We bolted into the McDonald's and wasted no time ordering two $5 meal deals.
The five-dollar meal deal had saved both our hunger and wallets. The ability for something so cheap to be so fulfilling in this economy is so hard to come by. Ever-increasing inflation and the increase of shrinkflation squeeze consumers like me into settling for an expensive and less fulfilling meal. The availability of the $5 Meal Deal allows for people like me who do not always have the biggest pockets to still get a good meal. The meal is an attempt to bring back a relic of the past, the Dollar Menu. $5 in the new dollar today, and McDonald's wanted to provide a meal that everyone can afford. As someone who does not pride themselves on their monetary value, I really do appreciate it when companies are conscious of their customers and still care for them. This menu item speaks volumes and provides so much for the customer. For the company, it shows a sense of recognition of its consumers. For the customer, the meal provides joy for the person, the wallet, and the palate. Bringing back the deal would greatly benefit not only the company but the customer. Please bring it back.
Hi Alberto! This was a very funny and interesting blog to read. Now I want to try the 5 dollar meal deal! I liked how you tried a different structure and jumped straight into describing the scene. I think it has good potential, but you need to add more reflection in your personal essay. I do think the parts describing the meal deal and your story is good, but I would like to hear more of your thoughts and reflections since it also a little short. I think with a bit more to add and a clearer sense of direction, this essay can be even better. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi Alberto. I think you constructed this essay in a very interesting way, and it definitely can get a laugh from the reader. However, I would like to say McDonalds still does have the $5 McChicken Meal Deal on their app... I'm not sure if you're aware of that. I think for your essay, although I'm not sure how to incorporate it, you probably would need to add more reflection. Your narration is interesting and funny, but I just don't see the reflection...? But again, since your essay is kind of unique, I'm not sure how to add it... Sorry...
ReplyDeleteHey Alberto, great blog post! The way you use the words to describe how delightful the "$5 Meal Deal" is actually really interesting. Two things are fact, your essay is really good and easy to read and it is kind of short. I understand that there is not to much to talk about the theme but maybe you could do more reflections or even show the perspective of your cousin. I really like the selections of words that you used, they are clean and efficient and, honestly, I didn't expect that. To sum up, try to make your essay bigger and richer in reflections and should bring a noticeable difference. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHey Alberto, I had a lot of fun reading this blog. The beginning hooks the reader nicely and I enjoyed your entertaining writing style. If you are looking for ways to elongate this essay, and adding more reflection, I would recommend considering expanding your thoughts on inflation/shrinkflation, and maybe explaining more about your pride (or lack of?) in your monetary value. But I think you have a lot of great stuff going on with a lot of potential, and I love your storytelling voice.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Jessy has pointed this out but good news for you, maybe not for your essay, but yeah Mcdonald's does have a $5 meal still existing. It is 4 nuggets instead of 5 but I believe the rest is the same. Yay?
